Work Package 6:

Health Economics

A number of challenges underscore the need for feasibility work; outcome measurement and valuation for youth is less developed than for adults.

Project SAMA will feasibility test a health economics assessment in preparation for a future effectiveness trial.

A number of challenges emphasise the need for such feasibility work as outcome measurement and valuation for youth is less developed than for adults. Project SAMA has multiple components to cost, and there are few economic evaluations in India from which to learn.

In Year 2 of Project SAMA, we will conduct the following three tasks:

  1. Using bottom-up strategy, we will estimate separate design and delivery costs per intervention component, to determine unit costs for personnel time. Costs will be presented at the class level to promote generalisability.

  2. Preference-based outcome measures are needed for economic evaluation, but there is limited evidence on their use with youth and no evidence of their feasibility in this context. We will feasibility test candidate measures including CHU-9D and EQ-5D-Y via pre-post administration to 50 intervention young people with 10 think-aloud interviews to identify completion challenges and administer the EQ-5D-5L67 and ICECAP-A.

  3. Present pre- and post-intervention outcomes for young people by intervention costs. Across tasks, outcomes will inform stakeholders of upscaling costs, the feasibility of preference-based outcome measures in this context, determining whether there is an a priori economic case for investing in these interventions.
